Consultant, Australian and New Zealand Patent Attorney
Mark’s experience in IP started in 1984 when, having recently graduated in electrical engineering, he joined the Patent Office (IP Australia) in Canberra as a trainee patent examiner. Over the following seven years Mark progressed to the position of Senior Examiner. Following on from his experience as a patent examiner, Mark took up a position with the Department of Defence in its intellectual property division, where he worked for the next five years.
Subsequent to his time with the DoD Mark joined a firm of patent attorneys in Brisbane where he registered as a patent attorney in 2001. He subsequently went on to become partner at one of Australia’s largest incoming filing firms assisting clients all over the world to obtain patent protection in Australia.
Prior to joining Michael Buck IP Mark had returned to the Patent Office where he worked for a further four years as a patent examiner with a particular interest in electromechanical inventions and the patentability of software and business methods.
Mark’s professional career has imparted a rare and highly valuable combination of experiences, from which his clients greatly benefit. He has worked as a senior patent examiner, as a partner in a patent attorney firm preparing and prosecuting patent applications for clients and also as a client of patent attorney firms. This rare combination of experiences ensures that Mark’s clients receive highly informed, practical, effective assistance.
